TJK’s New Stallion Recruit Twain Arrives in Türkiye

Twain, the Group 1-winning son of Wootton Bassett purchased by the Jockey Club of Turkey (TJK), has arrived in Türkiye ahead of taking up stallion duties for the 2027 covering season.

The four-year-old landed at Istanbul Airport on the morning of Wednesday, 2 September 2026, before being transported to the Jockey Club of Turkey’s Karacabey Boarding Stud Farm.

The Jockey Club of Turkey announced in July that it had acquired two new stallions, Twain and Mo Town, as part of its efforts to strengthen the country’s Thoroughbred breeding industry.

Foaled in 2022, Twain is by the late Wootton Bassett, one of Coolmore’s most influential stallions of recent years. Wootton Bassett’s leading performers include Prix du Jockey Club winner Almanzor, Champion Stakes winner King Of Steel, dual Group 1 winner Al Riffa and Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp winner Wooded.

Twain is out of Wading, a daughter of the outstanding sire Montjeu. Wading won the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes during her racing career and has also produced Group 2 winner Just Wonderful.

A Group 1 Winner on His Second Start

Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Twain made a striking racecourse debut at Leopardstown on 19 October 2024, winning a seven-furlong maiden by six lengths.

Just eight days later, he stepped up to the highest level and maintained his unbeaten record with victory in the Group 1 Critérium International over 1,600 metres at Saint-Cloud, ridden by Ryan Moore.

After missing his three-year-old campaign due to setbacks, Twain returned to action in April 2026 and finished fifth in the Group 3 Alleged Stakes at the Curragh. He retires to stud having won two of his three career starts, including one at Group 1 level.

Twain will begin serving breeders in Türkiye from the 2027 covering season.
